Proverbs I

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

… From the wayward wife with her seductive words.

Write them on the tablet of your heart.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed.

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways.

Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live.

Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendor.

They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

For the lips of an adulteress drip honey and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as the double-edged sword.

Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. She gives no thought to the way of life; her paths are crooked, but she knows it not. Keep a path far from her; do not go near the door of her house, lest you give your best strength to others...

At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent. You will say, "How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction!"

May your fountain be blessed and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer– may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love.

For a man's ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all his paths.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in the summer and gathers it's food at harvest.

How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?…Poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man.

Keep my commands and you will live…write them on the tablet of your heart.

You who are simple, gain prudence.

For wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.

I hate pride and arrogance.

Counsel and sound judgment are mine. I have understanding and power.

I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity.

I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.

For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord. But whoever fails to find me harms himself.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor.

The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.


Proverbs II

What the wicked dreads will overtake him; what the righteous desire will be granted.

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his tongue.

Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.

A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.

He who hates correction is stupid.

A wife of noble character is her husband's crown.

He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment

A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.

But the tongue of the wise brings healing.

A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools blurts out folly.

But he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.

Every prudent man acts out of knowledge, but a fool exposes his folly.

Prosperity is the reward of the righteous.

He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

Even in laughter the heart may ache and joy may end in grief.

The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

The poor are shunned even by their neighbors, but the rich have many friends.

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

The wealth of the wise is their crown.

A large population is a king's glory…

Wisdom reposes in the heart of the discerning.

But whoever heeds correction shows prudence.

A happy heart makes the face cheerful.

The cheerful heart has a continual feast!

A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.

He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise.

Whoever heeds correction gains understanding.

The fear of the Lord teaches a man of wisdom, and humility comes before honor.

All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

When a man's ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his enemies
live at peace with him.


Proverbs III

In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

The laborer's appetite works for him: his hunger drives him on.

A rebuke impresses a man of discernment more than 100 lashes a fool.

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.

Before his downfall a man's heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.

He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.

...Nor to be hasty and miss the way.

A man's own folly ruins his life, yet his heart rages against the Lord.

He who gets wisdom loves his own soul.

A quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.

… But a prudent wife is from the Lord.

Laziness brings on deep sleep.

Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death.

A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do it again.

What a man desires is unfailing love.

Rebuke a discerning man, and he will gain knowledge.

Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you stray from the words of knowledge.

Do not love sleep or you will grow poor.

"It's no good, it's no good!" says the buyer; then off he goes and boasts about his purchase.

It is a trap for a man to dedicate something rashly and only later to consider his vows.

The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord: he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.

All a man's ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.

To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

The plans of the diligent lead to profit.

Better to live on a corner of the roof than to share a house with a quarrelsome wife.

If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.

Whoever loves wine and oil will never be rich.

Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife.

He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.

The sluggard's craving will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work.

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.

Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life.

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.


Proverbs IV

Do you see a man skilled in this work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.

Do not wear yourself out to get rich.

Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

"They hit me" you will say "but I am not hurt!
They beat me, but I don't feel it!
When will I wake up so I can find another drink?"

For waging war you need guidance, and for victory many advisers.

Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.

An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

Like in earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is a wise man's rebuke to a listening ear.

Seldom set foot in your neighbors house – too much of you, and he will hate you.

Better to live on the corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.

A whip for the horse, a halter for the donkey, and a rod for the backs of fools.

Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself.

Like an archer who wounds at random is he who hires a fool or any passerby.

As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.

As a door turns on it's hinges, so a sluggard turns on his bed.

The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.

The sluggard is even wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer discreetly.

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips.

The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.

A quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping on a rainy day; restraining her is like restraining the wind or grasping oil with the hand.

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.

Death and Destruction are never satisfied and neither are the eyes of man.

The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but man is tested by the praise he receives.

But the righteous are as bold as a lion.

Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it fully

But the one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Do not spend your strength on women, you're vigor on those who ruin kings.

Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish; let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.

Defend the rights of the poor and needy.

A Noble wife:
She brings him good, not harm...She can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue...a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
